The global nutrition challenge
The world’s population is expected to reach 10 billion people by 2050. At the same time, the challenge is no longer just producing enough food. It is about improving the nutritional value of diets and broadening access to nutritious food.
Malnutrition exists in every country. Around 2 billion people suffer from micronutrient deficiencies, while rising levels of overweight and diet-related diseases show that diet quality remains a global issue.
Improving access to nutritious, affordable and sustainable food is essential to support health, resilience and long-term well-being.
Good nutrition for everyone
We want to provide healthy and sustainable nutrition to all people, of all ages, now and in the future. Nutrition is at the core of our strategy
Guided by our purpose nourishing by nature, nutrition is at the heart of what we do. At the same time, we recognise that delivering better nutrition depends on how food is produced and consumed. That is why our nutrition efforts are an integral part of our broader sustainability approach, including climate action and the transition towards a more resilient and sustainable dairy chain.
Our approach: FrieslandCampina Global Nutrition Framework
Our work on nutrition is guided by the FrieslandCampina Global Nutrition Framework. It translates our priorities on nutrition into clear commitments, targets and actions, ensuring a consistent approach across our global activities.
The framework aligns with the World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Action Plan and contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, including zero hunger, and good health and well-being.
Our Global Nutrition Framework describes our basic principles
Our 2030 Global Nutrition Framework details the principles, goals, and commitments that define how we nourish people and communities and how we bring our nutrition ambition to life. Our strategy is grounded in science, relevant for diverse markets, and actionable in practice. Our commitments:
- Provide healthy and sustainable nourishment by increasing the share of nutritious products that deliver essential nutrients such as protein, calcium, and other key vitamins and minerals.
- Continuously improve our portfolio by reducing added sugars and salt across key product categories and regions.
- Ensure responsible marketing and communication to help consumers make informed, positive choices for their health and well-being.
- Support nutrition for all life stages through tailored products, school programmes, and specialised ingredients designed to meet nutritional needs.
- Embed affordability and accessibility by ensuring nutritious products reach vulnerable communities, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
Nourishing by nature in action
