A dream come true.

Herda Bolly, Manager Development at Research & Development Wageningen

Herda Bolly is Manager Development at the FrieslandCampina Innovation Centre in Wageningen, the Netherlands. When she was a child, drinking milk was rather a privilege. Not every child had the opportunity to drink milk in Indonesia, the country where she was born. Growing up as an adult, she now works for the company that introduced milk in her childhood.

“Working at FrieslandCampina is a dream come true. In my job I am especially engaged in infant nutrition. Milk contains a lot of high-quality protein with essential amino acids. It contains important minerals such as calcium and phosphorous, as well as vitamins such as B2 and B12. This contributes to the development and growth of our bones and muscles. We have known this already for a long time, so it is not something new. However, it is important that we keep telling the story about milk. Milk is not just a food product, it is a very complete and healthy product."

I believe in what we do and in our products.

“Drinking milk is common in Europe and the United States of America. It is available and it is affordable. However, milk is a luxury product for many people in the world, a luxury product that they cannot always afford to take on a daily basis. And drinking daily-fresh milk is even in many cases, completely out of reach. FrieslandCampina takes good steps in offering affordable dairy products and tries to keep these accessible by offering products in various market segments. We see that the importance of milk is increasingly recognised internationally. For instance, in connection with the corona crisis, the China National Health Commisson and major dairy associations have provided the guideline for a healthy daily diet for Chinese people. Milk/dairy is mentioned as one of the high quality protein food according to the guideline."

“I have been working at FrieslandCampina for almost ten years now. It is my first job and I feel a strong drive to do this work. The purpose of FrieslandCampina in the area of producing healthy food greatly appeals to me. It would be impossible for me to work for a company that is based on goals and values that I do not share. I believe in what we do and in our products. I also see our growing commitment to a sustainable production of milk. For instance in the field of green energy or the use of paper straws in stead of plastic ones. The fact that we control our entire production chain from grass to glass, allows us to make safe and nutritious products that are produced in a sustainable way. It is our competitive advantage that we should keep leveraging. Therefore, sharing the story of milk is really important."
