World Food Day: a day to reflect on access to nutrition

The world population is expected to grow to ten billion people in the year 2050. Providing the world population with better nutrition every day is an important component of our purpose nourishing by nature.

Better nutrition for the world

At FrieslandCampina, we believe that nutrition is a fundamental right in life. The growing world population will make the need for high-quality, nutritious and affordable food increase. Currently, access to sufficient and healthy food is not self-evident for millions of people. With our brands we aim to provide nutritious milk products at an affordable price. This will help us to fulfil our ambition of making nutritious food available for everyone with our milk and milk products.

Broadening Access to Nutrition Programme

FrieslandCampina wants to provide healthy and sustainable nutrition to all people of all ages, now and in the future. Through our Broadening Access to Nutrition Programme we aim to help fight malnutrition by broadening availability - and affordability of healthy and/or fortified foods. The programme is focused on actively reaching our lower income markets with affordable and nutritious dairy products. We do this by:

  1. Growing our affordable nutrition portfolio.
  2. Optimising the nutritional value of these affordable nutrition products.
  3. Providing Food aid to those in need by cooperating with Food Banks and School Milk and School Feeding programmes.
  4. Use our dairy farming expertise in the Dairy Development Programme (DDP) to support local dairy farmers in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.

Affordable nutrition

Our colleagues worldwide contribute to achieving these goals by developing nutritious, affordable milk products that fulfil the needs of lower income families. Two examples of these products are Susu Bendera in Indonesia and Milky Pap in Nigeria.
