Social impact by FrieslandCampina in the Netherlands

Especially during this period, Campina wants to bring nutritious and healthy food to the people who currently need it the most.

Our member dairy farmers and employees work closely together to provide healthcare professionals with good nutrition and also supports people in care homes and asylum seekers centers, among other things, with donations of our products. Besides, we provide food banks with dairy products.

Extra support food banks
Food banks throughout the Netherlands are under pressure due to the Corona crisis. As a long-standing partner FrieslandCampina is intensifying its support for food banks in the coming weeks.

“Weekly we try to provide approximately 25 products from the basic food groups to our customers. It’s easier to do that with this donation from FrieslandCampina.”

Jan van Veldhuizen, board member of the Dutch Food banks

Less volunteers
Because a high number of number of flex- and self-employed workers are now facing  a decrease in work  and a decline in disposable income, an  increasing number of people are turning for help to food banks. At the same time, less volunteers are available at food banks. As many volunteers are over 70 years old and therefore forced to stay at home. The combination of more applications for food supplies and fewer volunteers poses a problem for food banks.

Milk and yoghurt
It is important to consume varied and healthy nutrition always, and especially now. In addition to Campina’s standard donation to the food banks, it will now donate extra 650,000 litres of dairy products such as milk and yoghurt in the coming eight weeks, to ensure that healthy and nutritious cartons of milk and yoghurt can be added to the food supplies. Campina’s extra donation will guarantee that  sufficient essential basic dairy products are provided to 40,000 households. Furthermore, FrieslandCampina stimulates its employees and member farmers to support their local food bank by helping with packing and handing out food supplies.
