FrieslandCampina has published an updated version of its climate plan, aligned with the tightened climate targets that were approved at the end of 2024 by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Mireille Einwachter, Chief Sustainability Officer at FrieslandCampina: “Our ambition is clear: we want to produce nutrition that benefits both people and the planet. Together with our member dairy farmers, partners, and customers, we are working on reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, while focusing on producing healthy and accessible nutrition at the same time. The updated climate plan shows that we are well on our way to achieving our 2030 climate targets. We are proud of what is already accomplished, but there is still work to be done—and we cannot do it on our own. Only by collaborating across the entire dairy chain can we provide good nutrition, ensure fair income for farmers, and care for people and the planet.”
Tightened climate targets
The climate plan was updated following FrieslandCampina’s tightened climate targets for 2030 that were established in 2024. These science-based targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and are in line with the Paris Agreement’s commitment to limit global warming to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius. A key difference from the 2022 plan is the breakdown of emission targets into emissions from forestry, land use and agriculture (FLAG) and other emissions (non-FLAG). Additionally, the base year has been adjusted from 2015 to 2020.
In the climate plan, FrieslandCampina reports on progress made so far and outlines the reduction pathway toward 2030. FrieslandCampina’s ambition remains to achieve net climate-neutral production by 2050 at the latest.
Sustainability strategy
FrieslandCampina’s climate plan is part of its integrated sustainability strategy, which is built on the pillars Nutrition, People, and Planet. Through this integrated approach, the climate plan is embedded in how FrieslandCampina contributes to sustainable nutrition and building a sustainable future for generations to come.
