FrieslandCampina dairy farmers and employees proudly celebrate 150 years of existence

Dairy farmers and employees will head out together to treat the Dutch public

FrieslandCampina now exists for over 150 years and on Friday 24 June the company will give extra attention to this milestone. On this day over 2,500 member dairy farmers and employees will be going door by door in more than 70 Dutch towns and villages – to treat as many people as possible to the new Campina yoghurt. The dairy cooperative reflects on the rich cooperative history of the company, and celebrates how it together with farmers has been providing millions of consumers all over the world with healthy food every day, for over 150 years.

Strong together since 1871

In 1871 a number of farmers joined together to form the ‘Vereeniging tot Ontwikkeling van den Landbouw in Hollands Noorderkwartier’. Other cooperative ventures followed. These marked the start of the dairy cooperative that would ultimately become FrieslandCampina. Today the company is active worldwide and a market leader in healthy nutrition, with almost 23,000 employees and branches in 32 countries.

Dustin Woodward, managing director of FrieslandCampina Nederland: ‘For over 150 years we have been working together with our farmers to produce tasty, high-quality dairy products. Thanks to generations of professional and entrepreneurial skill the Dutch dairy sector has become one of the most innovative and sustainable in the world. Together we are making the dairy sector future-proof, and we will continue our efforts to ensure a good income for our farmers. This is something we’re immensely proud of. That’s why, as part of the ‘Campina Dichterbij’ event, we are celebrating our jubilee with all dairy farmers and employees who together make FrieslandCampina the fantastic cooperative that we are today.’

‘Campina Dichterbij’ event

During our ‘Campina Dichterbij’ (literally: Campina closer to you) event on Friday 24 June, dairy farmers and employees in all Dutch provinces will be heading out to treat everyone in the Netherlands to the new Campina Sterke Start (Strong Start) yoghurt. Everyone deserves a good breakfast, and that’s why FrieslandCampina has been working with the Dutch Food Banks for some time already. Therefore on this day there will also be a fundraiser, where FrieslandCampina will double every donation. At the end of the day the company will present a cheque to the Dutch Food Banks.

The national kick-off for ‘Campina Dichterbij’ is in the Thialf ice arena, where Erben Wennemars is starting the day at 10:00am. The public is warmly invited to attend. Moreover, farmers and employees will be meeting at various locations all over the country before they head out to knock on doors.
