Proteins
One thing is certain: we all need proteins.
Essential building blocks
A large part of our body consists of protein. Proteins are essential, because they are building blocks for our bones and muscles. The body works every day to make new bone and muscle tissue to replace old tissue. Did you know that the muscles in your arms and legs are completely renewed every three months? It is therefore important to consume enough protein on a daily basis.
For young and old
Our bodies need protein throughout our lives, especially in situations that ask a lot of our bodies. For example, your body needs protein to grow during childhood or to allow your muscles to recover after a workout.
Protein quality
The quality of protein depends on the amount of essential amino acids it contains. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Essential amino acids are amino acids that the body cannot produce on its own. You can only get them from food. Protein is broken down into these amino acids during digestion in the gut. The body needs them to make new protein for our bones and muscles. Proteins that contain many of all these essential amino acids are considered high-quality proteins.
Dairy or plant-based?
Protein is valuable for our health. Plant-based proteins gain popularity due to their lower carbon footprint. We also know that dairy-based proteins are of a higher quality, providing highly efficient nutrition for the body. By combining plant and animal proteins, such as those from dairy, you can eat more sustainably and be less at risk of deficiencies of, for example, vitamin B12.
