Putting an end to human rights violations

People all over the world help us produce our end products. This includes people who do not work for our company or cooperative, such as entrepreneurs from whom we purchase ingredients, or farmers in other countries who produce milk. Some of these people live in places where human rights are violated. We take our share of responsibility for putting a stop to this.

Our policy on human rights

We respect and support internationally recognised human rights. We follow the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The OECD Guidelines ensure, among other things, that the activities of multinational companies promote trust between companies and societies. They also ensure that these activities contribute to sustainable development. In other words, we have a human rights policy, and make careful choices on that basis.

Measures in our policy

For example, our human rights policy outlines the measures we take to prevent child labour and forced labour and to promote access to water and sanitation. All employees are trained in this and go about their work carefully. Would you like to know more about what we have achieved so far? We provide an account of the progress made in our integrated annual report.

This is what we want to fight or support

In addition to forced labour and child labour, we are committed to eliminating the violation of other human rights. There are also rights that we actively support.
We are against:

  • child labour
  • forced labour
  • exploitation
  • bribery

We support:

  • fair pay
  • women's participation
  • the right to organise (recognised unions)
  • access to water and sanitary facilities

Proactive stance

Dedication is a precondition for an effective human rights policy. It is necessary to respond effectively to human rights violations. However, if it goes no further than that, you fall short as a company. We proactive try to prevent violations.

  • Conducting research

We conduct research in nine regions that we have qualified as “high risk”.
  • Protecting the chain

We identify risks and consider how we can protect our chain against them.
  • Training employees

We train employees to recognise and report possible violations.
