Now and in the future
Innovation inspires us and moves us forward. It helps us to unlock the nutritional power of milk and to further improve food safety and food processing. That makes innovation a fundamental part of our strategy Our Purpose, Our Plan. Every day FrieslandCampina’s scientists show their dedication and passion to solve global food challenges in a sustainable way. Each solution they create meets customers’ and consumers’ needs.

Innovation: our focus areas
Milk contains high-quality proteins, minerals, and vitamins, such as B2 and B12. We commit ourselves to finding out how to supply these nutrients more widely and effectively available. With our expertise, we focus on the areas of nutrition, milk characteristics, process technology, products, packaging, sustainability and dairy farming.
Nutrition and health research in Southeast Asia
FrieslandCampina initiated SEANUTS (Southeast Asia Nutrition Surveys), one of the largest nutrition research projects in Southeast Asia. In 2021, we finished the data collection for SEANUTS II, its second instalment. Data was collected about dietary intake, health and lifestyle for more than 13,000 children in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam, ranging in age from six months up to and including twelve years. We work together with leading universities and knowledge institutes in the region for this purpose. On the basis of new scientific insights, we will develop education and better nutritional products that meet local needs.
Sustainable solutions
Our innovation efforts range from technologies using less energy and water to more sustainable packaging. We even realise solutions for lowering the ecological footprint of the dairy farming sector.

Sustainability innovations
At FrieslandCampina, we are aware of the fact that the production of milk releases greenhouse gasses. We use our innovative strength to reduce the environmental burden throughout the entire chain, from grass to glass.
Collaboration with partners
In the area of sustainability, FrieslandCampina works together with partners to reduce the volume of CO2 and methane emitted by cows. Wageningen University is one example of the partners we work with.Digital solutions
In the context of the Winning with Climate & Nature programme, FrieslandCampina developed a new digital solution. The solution makes it possible to calculate the effect of sustainability measures on farms.Respackt
To reach our sustainability goals, we developed a new packaging modelling instrument: RESPACKT. This instrument converts knowledge and experience into an objective standard for sustainability and the reuse of packaging. One of the results of this was a new fully recyclable cheese packaging.
