Daniëlle De Lange, Marketing Director, is the person responsible for the marketing of the Campina, Joyvalle, Cécémel, Nutroma and Fristi brands at FrieslandCampina Belgium. In this role, she does, in cooperation with the entire Belgian team, her very best to market the brands in an as sustainable as possible way. How? For example, with the newest bio-based craft packaging of Campina meadow milk.
“Apart from the introduction of the paper straws for our portion packages, we also have more sustainable bio-based packaging in the market for almost all our carton litre packages. These include long-life milk and drinks of Campina, Joyvalle, Cécémel and Fristi. With Campina meadow milk we went even further by introducing a bio-based craft packaging. A new packaging that at this moment is the most sustainable packaging we can offer. This packaging consists for more than 80% of renewable basic materials and reduces our CO2 footprint by 20 percent compared with the former packaging and other packaging types in the market.”
“We believe that in order to win in the market the Campina brand must be leading in sustainability: be a trendsetter! Now and certainly in the future too. Therefore we will also take another look at the outer packaging of our multipacks. In Belgium, many consumers buy at once six or eight cartons of long-life milk. We will make the outer packaging keeping these cartons together from more sustainable, recycled materials by the end of the year 2021. This is another step into the right direction.”
As FrieslandCampina we have committed ourselves to only having recycled or renewable packaging by the year 2025.
"Of course, our consumers had to get used to the change from a quite white packaging to a craft pack that looks like a brown carton packaging. We received positive reactions, though, especially from the trade. As FrieslandCampina we have committed ourselves to only having recycled or renewable packaging by the year 2025. This, however, requires some further steps to be taken. For instance, with respect to our Cécémel and Fristi PET bottles. We want to replace the current PET packaging by a 100 percent recycled, even more sustainable, PET bottle. Besides, the PET bottles are not easy to recycle because of the ‘sleeve’ or the jacket around them. By means of clear communication on the packaging and by giving the sleeve a ‘zipper’, the sleeve can be easily removed from the PET bottle and with this we help the consumer to recycle.”
“I dream about achieving our sustainability objectives and showing our sustainability story to the outside world. Not only to the press and to our customers, but also to our consumers. As FrieslandCampina, both cooperative and company, we have a story that we can be proud of because we have control over the entire chain: from grass to glass. Our dairy farmers at their farms as well as the people at our production locations working on our packaging and nutritious products are contributing to a more sustainable world every day again. Our aim is to produce in a climate-neutral way in 2050, that is to say that we will no longer have a negative effect on climate change. This is an objective we can be really proud of."
