Plastic waste selection and recycling process for flexible food packaging

Background

FrieslandCampina strives to minimise the use of packaging materials and promotes plastic recycling. Effective sorting of different plastic materials is required to enable 100% recycling. Materials from traditional plastic recycling processes have their limitations compared to virgin plastics. One of the alternative approaches to processing plastics is chemical recycling: chemically degrading the collected plastic waste into its monomers or other basic chemicals.

Description of the need

We are interested in a waste selection processes and plastic recycling processes for 100% recycling of flexible food packaging material. The solution must be able to deal with multilayer materials. The recycled packaging must enable high oxygen and light barriers to protects products against external influences during transport and storage.

What we know already

We are aware of traditional recycling processes for plastics and emerging technology for chemical recycling of PET material.
