Queen Máxima visits FrieslandCampina in Workum

9 September 2015

Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands has paid a visit to Workum today. She visited our cheese factory in Workum (in the north, in Friesland ). Earlier she went to one of our farmers. Queen Máxima came to Workum because FrieslandCampina has won the King Willem I Award last year. Máxima presented this Award to FrieslandCampina. Usually she visits a winning company one year later.

Sustainability and innovative power are important reasons for winning the King Willem I award. At the farm of the Stokman family in Koudum 300 cows are kept in a sustainable way. The cows can make us of an innovative stable; there is equipment for the production of bio-gas, reception facilities for geese and care for grassland birds. Queen Máxima spoke with the Stokman family about sustainability, biodiversity and the abolition of milk quotas. She also got a tour around the farm.
