On Wednesday 7 May, the proposed merger agreement between Friesland Foods and Campina was approved by the general meeting of member dairy farmers of Zuivelcoöperatie Friesland Foods and the Members’ Council of Zuivelcoöperatie Campina. On Thursday 8 May, the agreement was duly signed in Amersfoort (the Netherlands) by the respective Boards and Directors of both companies.
The signatories included Kees Wantenaar (Chairman of the Board/Supervisory Board of Campina, third from left), Sybren Attema (Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Friesland Foods, second from left), Theo Spierings (member of the Board of Management of Friesland Foods, right) and Kees Gielen (Acting CEO of the Board of Management of Campina, left).
Before the merger can be fully formalised, the works councils of both companies must provide a response and the European Commission must issue a decision. The Commission’s decision is expected during the final quarter of 2008.
