The Member Council of Zuivelcoöperatie FrieslandCampina U.A. agreed to the decision of the Board to compensate the member dairy farmers for the missed milk payment due to not collecting the milk in connection with the black ice earlier this month.
The compensation for the not collected milk will be determined on the basis of the average milk payment for the month of January 2016. The member dairy farmers will also receive the missed out compensation for continuous milk supply of 2 euro per 100 kilo of milk, provided that they meet the conditions of this measure, which came into force on 1 January 2016, before and after the situation caused by the iciness.
In determining the volume of milk that the member dairy farmers poured off the last known the delivery before the postponement of the milk collection and the delivery after resumption of the milk collection is taken into consideration. It is estimated that the dairy farmers poured off 4.5 to 5 million kilo of milk. A total amount of about 1.6 million euro will be compensated.
As a result of the black ice, the roads in the north of the Netherlands (the provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe) were difficult to drive on in the period from 4 to 7 January inclusive. All people involved in the milk transports made great efforts to collect as much milk as possible. Here the safety of the drivers and other road users always came first. Therefore it was decided to not collect the milk from a number of member dairy farmers and the dairy farmers concerned were asked to pour the milk of the first next milking into the pit.
