FrieslandCampina continuously improves the nutritional value of consumer products portfolio

15 March 2019

Thanks to the efforts of previous years, in 2018, 66% of the sales volume of consumer products, complied to the FrieslandCampina Global Nutritional Standards (GNS). These serve as our guide in product development and reformulation. Because of the successful implementation of the standards and to continue progress, FrieslandCampina decided to raise the 2020 on GNS compliance target to 70%.

Additionally, FrieslandCampina aims for a product portfolio with a good balance between ‘basic nutritional products for daily consumption’ and ‘self-indulgent products for occasional consumption’. The objective is that yearly, at least 70 percent of the sales volume of consumer products are ‘basic nutritional products for daily consumption’. In 2018, the result was 80 percent.

Nutrition policy

An important part of the FrieslandCampina purpose nourishing by nature is providing better nutrition for the world population. This purpose is captured in the FrieslandCampina Nutrition Policy. This policy is based on the WHO Global Action Plan and is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, to reduce hunger in the world and to promote good health and well-being. The Nutrition Policy includes four programs: Better Products, Responsible Communications, Lifestyle Education and Broadening access to nutrition.

Objectives

In the Better Products program, we are continuously improving the nutritional value of our products. We ensure a good balance between the number of nourishing products intended for daily use and the number of indulgence products for occasional use. To monitor this, we apply the FrieslandCampina Global Nutritional Standards. The Global Nutritional Standards serve as our guide in product development and reformulation. We have formulated a number of practical objectives. Find them on this page.
