On Friday morning 22 June, at 10 am Edwin van Doorne, Director Manufacturing Cheese, rang the bell at the Alkmaar cheese market (NL). Ringing the bell is the sign that indicates the start of the cheese market. Edwin rang the bell at the invitation of Mayor Piet Bruinooge and in the presence of a number of plant managers from FrieslandCampina.
“It was an honour and a wonderful experience to ring the bell and open the cheese market in Alkmaar. Seeing and tasting our delicious North Holland Gouda cheese with The Red Seal, made at our cheese plant in Lutjewinkel, gave me immense pride and joy”, according to Edwin.
FrieslandCampina has supplied the Alkmaar cheese market with North Holland Gouda cheeses for many years. Earlier this month, the North Holland Gouda cheese with The Red Seal was awarded three golden stars, the maximum award that can be attained at the Superior Taste Award in Brussels.
The Alkmaar cheese market has been a tradition since 1593. This year, the cheese market is being held every Friday morning from 10 am to 1 pm from 30 March to 28 September.
