Kodden received the award from Siebe Riedstra, Secretary General of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, who presented the award on behalf of the Minister of Economic Affairs, Henk Kamp.
The chairman of the jury, Henk Kamp said: “Berndt Kodden convinced the jury as Young Captain 2014 with his style of leadership, which is characterised as being very strong with respect to content in analysing trends and the capability to apply these in an unconventional business approach. With this Berndt and his teams managed to transform the small brand in Asia into a major market player. Berndt takes the lead without always being in the front lines. His balance between sensitivity for employees at all levels and his business ingenuity with a realistic view on where an investment will yield most, are excellent examples of how to lead an organisation.’
Berndt Kodden commented: ‘I am very happy to have won the Young Captain Award 2014. It is a great recognition for me and certainly for FrieslandCampina too. The Young Captain Award endorses the importance of leadership and talent development of the next generation for large multinationals in the Netherlands. The good leadership and talent programmes of our company of the past years show that we really want to invest in this. People matter most!’
