FrieslandCampina Leeuwarden is working hard on the expansion and renovation of the production capacity of evaporated and condensed milk for export.
Last Saturday November 15th, three new evaporators have been lifted into the highest building. The evaporators each weigh 67.5 tons with 28 meter of length. In order to lift them into the building two enormous hydraulic cranes have been used. These cranes, with a hookheight of 80 meter can carry 85 tons when being used together.
With this expansion FrieslandCampina is responding to two new developments. On the one hand the growing demand for dairy products from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. On the other hand the expected growth of the amount of milk supplied by our member farmers after the milk quota have been abolished in 2015.
Mid March the first pile of the 44 meter high building went into the ground. The first phase will be ready end 2015 or at the beginning of 2016. In 2017 the second phase will be fully operational.
Thanks to these investments of 110 million euro FrieslandCampina Leeuwarden can grow. Before that a 48 euro million investment has been done in the expansion of the processing capacity already.
