At this moment we are working really hard at FrieslandCampina in Leeuwarden (The Netherlands) on expanding and modernising the production capacity of evaporated and condensed milk intended for export.
With this expansion FrieslandCampina anticipates two developments. On the one hand the demand for milk products is growing, in particular in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. On the other hand there is the expected growth of the volume of supplied milk after the abolishment of the milk quota in 2015.
The foundation stone for the 44 metres high building was laid mid-March and this week a start was made with hoisting in the 31 large stainless steel storage tanks. The first phase of the expansion will be completed by the end of 2015 or the beginning of 2016. The expansion will be fully operational in the year 2017.
This expansion enables FrieslandCampina in Leeuwarden to grow further. The investments amounts to 110 million euros. 48 million euros were already invested before in the expansion of the processing capacity.
