FrieslandCampina is investigating possibilities for expanding its location at Needseweg 23 (the Hambroek II industrial site) in Borculo. This would require a review of the current zoning plan. The results of this study will determine the eventual decision, which has not yet been formally taken.
FrieslandCampina has submitted a request for a review of the Borculo zoning plan to the municipality of Berkelland to enable the proposed expansion to take place.
The municipal council at Berkelland are in principle willing to grant this request. To this end, an Environmental Impact Assessment will shortly be carried out. The decision will depend partly on its findings.
The proposed expansion ties in with FrieslandCampina’s route2020 growth strategy and would involve the construction of a factory for the production of milk powder which is suitable for use in specific types of high quality infant nutrition for children and babies aged two years and older. With this investment, FrieslandCampina is responding to growing demand for high-grade infant nutrition.
FrieslandCampina is also preparing for the abolition of the milk quota in 2015. The company is anticipating that this will result in an increase in the volume of milk from the member farmers. The new drying factory would also be able to process this increased milk supply into milk powder in the near future.
Local residents near the FrieslandCampina Domo production plant in Borculo were invited to a special meeting where they were given a detailed account of the proposed plans and the procedures that would be followed.
