Innovation Award for milk in sachets

6 May 2010

At the Global Dairy Congress held in the Austrian city of Salzburg, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria won the Innovation Award 2010 in the milk drink category. The award, a prize from the International Dairy Federation, was presented for the launch of condensed milk in a sachet on the Nigerian market.

The condensed milk was previously only sold in 170g tins. Partly thanks to intensive collaboration with Research & Development in Leeuwarden (the Netherlands), a new technology was developed to fill sachets with milk and then to sterilise them without compromising shelf life and taste. Furthermore, the milk, which is now sold in single 35 gramme portions, is also affordable for the lower income groups in Nigeria.

The new product was launched in November 2009. FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria is currently working to expand production capacity.
