Nourishing by Nature in Asia

At the heart of everything FrieslandCampina does is one purpose – Nourishing by Nature. Through Nourishing by Nature, we seek to address three major global challenges – a growing population, ageing farmers and the scarcity of natural raw materials.

An increasing global population demands that the way the world eats today needs to be more sustainable and accessible. By providing affordable dairy nutrition, we help to meet tackle the challenge of food and nutrition security by meeting global food demands.

Food and nutrition security is further tempered by the double burden of malnutrition – undernutrition and overnutrition – a growing problem that poses challenges not only in Southeast Asia but to the world’s public health system with damaging effects to social and economic development.

Undernutrition contributes to about a third of all child deaths, and about 104 million children worldwide are underweight.  Conversely, overweight and obesity kill more people than underweight worldwide. Obesity, one of the leading causes of the growth of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), claims an estimated 8.5 million lives annually in the Southeast Asia region alone. Physical inactivity is also found to be the fourth leading cause of deaths globally.  Yet, the majority of these deaths are preventable.

We work in Asia to build sustainability into the livelihoods of our farmers. By providing them with the right training and access, we help increase their incomes and in turn, making the profession more stable and attractive to younger farmers.

As a business, we are also conscious about our impact on the society and remain committed to developing a dairy supply chain that is sustainable and environmentally conscious.

Our work to address the global challenges outlined above allows FrieslandCampina to improve the lives of Asian consumers through good nutrition, education and economic well-being. Our vision is to harness our knowledge and experience to create a blueprint for Nourishing by Nature which we can scale across Asia and the world.

Employee engagement initiatives in Singapore

As part of its local CSR efforts, FrieslandCampina Regional HQ leverages the company’s dairy heritage by donating milk to families who receive social support.

Staff from FrieslandCampina Regional HQ are encouraged to participate in a range of activities from which they can ‘earn’ milk cartons that will be donated to local charities. From using the stairs at the office to a ‘Miles for Milk’ running event, employees can accumulate more cartons with greater participation.

Partnering with ‘Willing Hearts’, an organisation that prepares and distributes thousands of meals daily to needy families across the country, FrieslandCampina Singapore then donates the milk cartons raised by employees to supplement the meals.
