Syeda Uzma Shah works as an HR Executive at Engro Foods, a dairy company in Pakistan in which FrieslandCampina acquired a majority interest at the end of last year. Despite her physical disability, Uzma found a challenging job that gives her a lot of satisfaction.

Our team consists of four employees and our main responsibility is to build up a visible brand that attracts top talent. We are also involved in what comes next: the onboarding programme. With this we make sure that new employees are well equipped to start their new job.”

“I have worked at Engro Foods for 18 months and I am really happy for being offered this opportunity. This is not very self-evident in Pakistan because of my physical impairment; I became paralysed from my waist down after a traffic accident in 2003. The office of Engro Foods had already been made wheelchair accessible before I came. Unfortunately, this does not hold for most of the (public) buildings in Karachi. Also Public transport is still not accessible for people in a wheelchair. Years ago, I decided to turn my disability into a chance and I set up my own NGO “Enable Pakistan”, through which I fight for equal rights for disabled people.”
