FrieslandCampina to make major investments in infant nutrition in Beilen and Bedum
Responding to growing demand for infant nutrition

FrieslandCampina Domo will invest a total of 130 million euros to expand its production plants in Beilen and Bedum over the coming years. These investments will enable the company to double its production capacity for total infant formulas and the required ingredients during the coming years.
FrieslandCampina Domo in Beilen will receive 100 million euros to expand its mixing capacity and install a new dryer and packaging line for infant nutrition. These investments will enable FrieslandCampina Domo to respond more effectively to the growing demand for ingredients for infant nutrition and for the production of total infant formulas. FrieslandCampina Domo is also taking these measures in anticipation of future quality requirements which will be imposed by its clients and by law. The expansion activities will also allow the company to continue producing a wide range of infant nutrition products in the future.
In Bedum, 30 million euros will be invested in scaling up the processing capacity for demineralised whey ingredients. This will enable FrieslandCampina Domo to reinforce its leading position in the demineralised whey proteins sector.
Herman Ermens, Managing Director FrieslandCampina Domo: ‘These investments will allow us to help our customers achieve long-term growth in infant nutrition.’ Infant nutrition is one of the spearheads of FrieslandCampina’s route2020 strategy. The projected growth will be based partly on increasing demand for high-quality infant nutrition, primarily in Asia.
FrieslandCampina has over 75 years’ experience in the field of infant nutrition. In addition to owning the company, its dairy farmers also supply the key raw materials for infant nutrition.
The company’s in-house quality control system Foqus, which oversees the entire chain from start to finish, enables FrieslandCampina Domo to produce both ingredients and complete infant formulas of a consistently high quality standard.
The Beilen plant currently employs over 500 staff. Over the next two years, this will rise to more than 600. The Bedum staff complement of 72 will be expanded by three extra jobs.
The investments are scheduled for completion in 2013.
