Coveted cheese award to Hette Bouma

FrieslandCampina employee wins 50th edition of the Dutch cheese taster award

Amersfoort, the Netherlands - The Gouden Kaasboor 2009 (Golden Cheese Taster 2009) award went to Hette Bouma, an employee with FrieslandCampina’s cheese business in Dronrijp (Netherlands). Bouma achieved 232 points, the top scorer among the 469 participants in the 50th edition of the Dutch national cheese taster competition (Nederlands Nationaal Kaaskeur Concours or NNKC), the contest to determine the country’s best cheese connoisseur. Former Dutch Agriculture Minister Gerrit Braks did the honours, hanging the Golden Cheese Taster around Bouma’s neck.

For the past 50 years, the NNKC has been among the Netherlands’ biggest professional competitions to prove who is the country’s most accomplished cheese connoisseur. Participants are given 10 cheese samples; their assignment involves describing the type, age, aroma, flavour and quality.
Bouma wasn’t the only prize winner from FrieslandCampina; Ms. J. Nijhuis  won sterling silver, Mr. J. Heida won silver and Messrs. B. Dekkers, R. van Vroenhoven, M. Bakker, and P. van Osenbruggen took bronze.
