DP 1000: liquid topping in powder form

Toppings, used for instance to decorate cakes, were always available in powder and in liquid form. Each has its own particular advantages and disadvantages. Clients requested a combination of both. FrieslandCampina responded by developing DP 1000, which combines the positive properties of liquid toppings with the advantages of powder.

DP 1000, which FrieslandCampina Kievit added to the assortment in the summer of 2010, was developed by the FrieslandCampina Ingredients Innovation Centre in Wageningen.

Topping use
Toppings are used in the catering or retail sector to make mousse or ice cream even more light, for example, or by bakers as decoration for cakes.
Liquid toppings and toppings in powder form are both available; each has its own particular advantages and disadvantages. Liquid toppings ensure a stable layer of foam and are ideal for decorating purposes. Toppings in powder form are easier to transport and have a longer shelf life. More and more clients asked for a combination of both types.

Innovative process DP 1000
FrieslandCampina Ingredients Innovation in Wageningen and the Marketing and Sales department of FrieslandCampina Kievit Market Unit Bakery decided to accept the challenge. The innovation process had been initiated before the merger of Friesland Foods and Campina. In July 2010, the result of the new cooperative undertaking was launched on the market: DP 1000.
The technical composition of the new product is to remain a secret. It is however clear that the new powder has all the favourable properties of a liquid topping, thanks to a unique combination of ingredients and the production process. Moreover, because DP 1000 does not need to be kept chilled, clients achieve an additional cost advantage.
