Cheese classics, with their characteristic taste

Gouda, Edam and Maasdam semi-hard cheeses, with their characteristic taste, are renowned the world over. You can use these classic cheeses in many ways. They contain all the beneficial properties of milk. We have over a century of experience as cheesemakers. Our classic cheeses are sold in many dozens of countries, mainly under the Frico brand.

Gouda cheeses are characterised by their round shape and distinctive flavour. From the soft, creamy taste of young cheese to the strong character of Gouda, some of which has been matured for as much as a year. And of course there are also Gouda cheeses to which we add herbs. We supply whole cheeses, which retailers can cut into segments, and pre-packaged slices, blocks and grated cheese. In addition to our naturally matured Gouda cheeses, we also make foil-ripened cheese for customers who can process them further.
We also make Maasdam cheeses which can be recognised by their large holes and slightly sweet, nutty flavour.
Just as renowned as our Gouda cheeses are our Edam cheeses with their spherical shape and distinctive taste.
You can decide for yourself how to enjoy our cheeses. Preferences differ from country to country: for instance, the Dutch like to eat sliced cheese on bread, whereas in France our cheeses are also included on the cheese board or in prepared dishes. Each country has its own cheese culture, and we match our range to these national preferences.

Different milk, different cheese
Cheese is a rich and vital product. That richness begins with the production and origin of the milk, which is full of potential. Using milk from specific regions, we make specific cheeses that are different from our other cheese ranges.
One of the special cheeses we make is North Holland cheese. Both the cheese and the milk used to make it come from the Dutch province of North Holland. Our North Holland cheese has the EU’s Protected Designation of Origin (a red seal depicting Alkmaar cheese carriers). It is sold mainly in the Netherlands and Belgium.
In Germany, you can buy Frico Deichgold. The milk for this cheese comes from farms in the Dutch provinces of Friesland and Groningen, both of which are less than ten kilometres from the Wadden Sea coast. A special recipe is used to convert this milk into an exceptional-tasting cheese.
