We’re a young company in name, but at FrieslandCampina we have a long history of strong, sustainable performance. We’ve been entrepreneurs and innovators from our beginnings in 1879 as the world’s first dairy co-operative.
Today we’re a leading global dairy company, with 22,000 employees and 17,000 member farmers in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, annual turnover of EUR 9.1bn and more than one hundred production and sales locations. Every day millions of people choose milk and dairy products – people just like you and us.
The recent merger of Friesland Foods and Campina to form FrieslandCampina gives us the expertise and scale to accomplish this better than ever. Our combined strength will also help us to compete effectively in today’s dynamic global dairy market.
Merging two global dairy leaders
In December 2007 we announced our intention to merge Friesland Foods and Campina. Since then we’ve had a busy year; we merged in December 2008, following the approval of the European Commission.
Getting the approval of our member farmers, involving our employees, working through the official process with the EU competition authorities – we’ve accomplished all this and more to prepare for the new company and co-operative.
Throughout this process, Friesland Foods and Campina have continued to serve our customers and consumers every day. The approved merger is the basis for a new company combining the strengths of Friesland Foods and Campina. A company built on the shared commitment of getting more out of milk. And, of course, although we’ve come a long way, there’s still a lot more to do.
Financial performance: our milk price model challenges us to perform
An important aspect of our performance is our milk price model for member farmers, which aims to pay our farmers a milk price that is leading in northwest Europe. As a consequence, we must maintain strong performance.
Our milk price model will consist of a guaranteed milk price, the average of milk prices paid by other companies in Germany, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands, and a performance bonus based on FrieslandCampina’s profit.
We will add profits not paid to member farmers to the company equity and members’ capital. This will strengthen the company for further development.
Market performance: we have created many successes with your help
We will build our new business on a solid foundation: strong brands with great market positions. We owe this to the people who buy our products or do business with us. Some of the brands created by our consumers, our customers and ourselves:
- Campina, which offers milk, yoghurts, desserts, creams and butter, is the most bought brand in Dutch supermarkets.
- Campina is the biggest liquid milk brand in Belgium.
- Optimel (low fat, low calorie dairy) and Vifit make us the biggest supplier of dairy health products in the Netherlands.
- Milner low fat, full flavour cheese is the biggest cheese brand in the Netherlands in it’s kind and a leading brand in Belgium and Greece.
- Yazoo is a leading flavoured milk drink in the UK.
- Puddis, a dessert with intriguing flavour combinations, is an important sweet dessert brand in Germany.
- Appelsientje, Coolbest and Dubbelfrisss are brands of leading juice-based drinks in the Netherlands and other markets.
- Friesche Vlag coffee enrichers have led their markets since they were first sold in Holland in 1932.
- Chocomel has been Holland’s best loved chocolate milk since 1932.
- Landliebe is a traditional dairy brand with a rich flavour and natural composition that is extremely popular in Germany and Austria.
- Friso infant and toddler nutrition is a leading brand in Vietnam, with strong positions in Greece, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Russia and other markets.
- In Russia, Fruttis is one of the biggest fruit yoghurt brands for fortified fruit yoghurts and yoghurts drinks.
- Dutch Lady is one of the biggest brands for dairy and infant and toddler nutrition available in Malaysia and Vietnam, thanks to its blend of nutritional care and great value for money.
- Foremost is an ever-popular range of milk, soy drink, yoghurt and condensed milk products fortified with vitamins, minerals and other benefits for Thailand.
- Our wide range of cheeses, including well known brands like Frico and Milner, is enjoyed by millions of people in more than 60 countries.
- Botergoud (Buttergold) is the leading butter in the Netherlands.
- Pöttyös is a leading brand of curd-based chocolate snacks in Hungary and Romania.
- Milli is a well known dairy brand in Hungary and Romania.
