World Milk Day to celebrate all aspects of milk

World Milk Day is celebrated on the 1st of June. The first World Milk Day was held in 2001. FAO (the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations) proposed this specific day to celebrate all aspects of milk; the natural origin, the nutritional value, the numerous tasty products which are liked by many people all across the globe, the economic importance of milk in rural regions as well as in the entire food chain. As FrieslandCampina we celebrate World Milk Day in several countries, with our consumers as well as with our employees.

The date of 1st June was chosen by FAO because a number of countries were already celebrating a national milk day on or around this time. Since the first World Milk Day was held in 2001, many countries spread throughout the world have participated in the celebrations and the number is growing each year. Colombia, Germany, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Romania, USA. The fact that more than 30 countries choose to do this on  or around the same day lends additional importance to individual national celebrations and shows that milk is a global food.
